Cybercrime is an umbrella term that includes any illegal behavior facilitated through electronic means. This behavior is directed at disrupting the security of computer systems and their data through hacking, data leaks, online scams, software piracy, mobile money fraud and cyberterrorism.
AGA-Africa initiated a virtual discussion on Twitter on 25th August 2020, using the hashtag #ChangedAfrica, to start a conversation on Cybercrime, Illicit Flows, and Challenges the Judiciaries are facing in an ongoing pandemic.
The one-hour tweetathon was aimed at starting an informed discussion on Twitter on how Africa is adapting to the Coronavirus Pandemic, the challenges and opportunities and how this affects AGA-Africa’s efforts to combat Cybercrime.
The Tweetathon brought together thought leaders and experts who shed more light on the topic including: Dr. Willy Mutunga, Former Chief Justice; Julie Okah-Donil, NAPTIP; Jessica Schutzman, Bureau Chief- Financial Crimes, DA Office; Robert Kabushenga, CEO New Vision, Media Group; Tyrus Kamau, Internet Security Specialist, Euclid Consultancy; and Dr. Bright Mawudor, Cybercrime expert/ Lecturer Strathmore University.
